TAISEL Wins Chunghwa Telecom Bid for Taoyuan WiMAX Deployment

TAISEL (Taiwan International Standard Electronics), a joint venture between Alcatel and Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom, has won a bid to provide WiMAX equipment for Chunghwa Telecom in Taoyuan County, northern Taiwan. Starting from March 2007, TAISEL will begin shipments of 33 802.16e-2005 WiMAX base stations to link ten industrial parks in Taoyuan, facilitating wireless broadband Internet access at 50 to 100 Mbps. TAISEL outbid competitor Nortel with an offer of NT$79 million (US$2.4 million; US$1 = NT$32.9).
